How is the program funded?

The Ministry of Community and Social Services – Employer Outreach Secretariat provides one-year funding for projects in Ontario that provide creative ways to match Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) clients with opportunities for employment.  This funding has allowed us to hire a regional coordinator for the program and five district coordinators, and has provided us with the necessary financial support for the marketing of the program and for completing training opportunities that potential employees may require in order to secure meaningful employment.

How can I, as an employer, get involved?

It’s simple, all you need to do is fill out the registration form on this website including your business details, the position available, and what kind of employee you are looking for.  We will use this information and have the service providers find matches for your request for employees.  If you have any questions, there is a district coordinator in each area as well as a regional coordinator that can assist you in filling in the registration form.  See the “contact us” if you require more information or assistance with your apllication.

How can I, as someone seeking employment, get involved?

Currently the program is only geared to OW and ODSP clients, so if you qualify as one of these clients, ask your social service agency provider for more information.

Why is the Chamber involved?

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Ministry of Community and Social Services; the District Social Service Boards of Nipissing, Cochrane, Timiskaming, Parry Sound; and the Municipality of Muskoka, was the successful proponent through the Employment Innovations Fund for this one year pilot project.  The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce also has contacts with 16 other Chambers in the north east region.

The Ministry stated this was a unique partnership as they had never had a Chamber submit a proposal and they were very pleased that our application took a north eastern regional approach.

While the social service agencies and employment providers continually seek employment opportunities for their clients, the Chambers have a vast network of businesses in the north east region and this partnership will certainly benefit both the potential employees and the employers.
